Dear All,
Version 2.0 of the Roadmap on Neuro-IT is available. A new chapter was added
and some of the other chapters have undergone substantial revisions.
The most important ones:
- A completely new chapter on bio-inspired hardware. Big thanks to Eduardo
Ross and Francisco Pelayo from the University of Granada and to Giacomo
Indiveri and Tobi Delbrück from INI.
- The 'brainship' project has been revised by Erik de Schutter using input
from the Antwerp workshop.
- The chapters on 'Conscious Machines' have been merged with the help of
Richard Walker and extended by Igor Aleksander, John Taylor and Ricardo
Sanz.
- Anders Lansner provided a novel perspective on large-scale computing in
'Constructed Brain'.
The document has been substantially edited by Richard Walker to provide a
more homogeneous style (unfortunately for Richard some chapters were
modified after his work, so wherever you find some dubious English
constructions, don't blame Richard).
The document already has played a substantial role in the planning for FP7
according to Pekka Karp. We have always forwarded contributions as they came
in, sometimes after slight editing. So a lot has gone on beneath the
surface. This version serves as a 'freeze' of that process.
We will produce a version 2.1 in August. You can still send contributions
and comments for that one. In that version we hope to release yet another
new chapter. We will also correct some small mistakes that are still there
and hope to improve the style of the document a little bit. We will make a
printed version of 2.1. If you are interested in a copy you can mail me.
I have been told that together with the 'Beyond-the-Horizon' document this
version will still serve as input for FP7 planning.
Best regards,
Marc
