THE DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRONICS

Research Assistant in Electronics

Automatic Design of Adaptive Systems using Unconstrained Evolution
and Development on the POEtic Platform

Ref: AR07163

As a result of a newly funded EPSRC project we are looking to appoint
a Research Assistant to work in the area of bio-inspired
architectures, in particular in the areas of evolutionary algorithms
and computational development. This project aims to use unconstrained
evolution and development to automatically design hardware capable of
autonomous tasks. The system will be evaluated with complexity as a
major consideration and in particular, a study of its scaling
properties will be made. The engineering outcome of this will be
adaptable, efficient, fault-tolerant systems suitable for future
technology.

You will be expected to have completed, or be very close to,
submitting a PhD in a bio-inspired research area. A degree in an
appropriate discipline is essential. Have is a strong background in
bio-inspired work applied to engineering. Experience in FPGA design
is highly desirable.

Informal enquiries about the post can be made to Professor Andy
Tyrrell, (email amt at ohm.york.ac.uk) to Dr Julian Miller (email:
jfm7 at ohm.york.ac.uk).

Closing date for applications: 12.00 noon on Monday 21 May 2007.
For further particulars and details of how to apply, please see our
website at: http://www.york.ac.uk/admin/persnl/jobs/ or write to the
Personnel Office, University of York, Heslington, York YO10 5DD,
quoting reference number AR07163.
