Postdoc position available immediately at the University of Genoa,
Genoa, Italy.
We have an opening for a postdoc to work on the EU project CONTACT
(learning and development of CONtextual ACTion).
The goal of CONTACT is to discover and understand sensorimotor
mechanisms common to both perception and production of speech and
manipulation. As infants, we all developed the ability to move our
muscles to manipulate objects and to communicate with gestures and
speech. Did we learn to perceive and produce gestures for manipulation
and speech independently, or are these two learning processes linked? In
CONTACT, we are attempting to answer this fundamental question with a
set of multidisciplinary experiments in robotics, neuroscience,
experimental psychology, and phonetics.
As part of the project, we are developing a "linguometer": a set of
instruments for measuring phonoarticulatory activity during speech. Your
task will be to work with the datasets collected from the linguometer,
and use the motor information present in several modalities to better
train a speech recognition system. The successful candidate will have a
strong background in Automatic Speech Recognition, an interest in
robotics, and a willingness to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
For more information on the project, see:

The position is based in Genoa, Italy, and is available immediately.
